Anouschka is a singer-songwriter. She composes, arranges, performs, and produces original music
Anouschka is half Swedish and half American. She grew up traveling the globe while living in Thailand, Sweden, U.S.A., Germany, and England. Her international upbringing has given her a unique perspective as a creator and recording artist. She is as versatile with her music as in her travels, easily blending blues, jazz, rock, pop, reggae, and urban influences with well-crafted content. Her outside-of-the-box thinking comes from never having a box to begin with. Moving constantly made it impossible to see the world in just one way or to be a purist creatively. It also made it hard to build lasting friendships so her Swedish grandmother gave her a used guitar when Anouschka was 12 years old. Anouschka named the guitar "Tinker" and it became her best friend. Songwriting became her journal to explore thoughts, feelings, and observations
Anouschka released her debut singer-songwriter album in Boston, MA, the U.S.A. in 1996. It was followed by a blues-inspired album in Sweden, a pop-rock album in Berlin, an East African inspired album in Kenya, and a solo singer-songwriter album in Berlin. She has been compared to artists like Rickie Lee Jones, Joni Mitchell, Shaina Twain, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Osborne, and Nora Jones- depending on the song
She first traveled to Kenya in 1999. She noticed that people were playing hits from the Western sphere in spite of a rich local pop scene. To help raise awareness for this scene, she pioneered a new style there in 2014 blending Kiswahili, English, local Kenyan beats with Western songwriting form. Her African-influenced songs are family-friendly, spiritual, and intended to travel (just like Anouschka), and build bridges of compassion for a more tolerant world. She also traveled to South Africa to live in the bush for three months while volunteering and training as a field guide. She was commissioned to write the first song to protest canned lion hunting in South Africa. The song became the campaign song for the Global March to Save the African Lion in 60 countries
Anouschka has a Masters in Natural Resource Management from the Resilience Center, Stockholm University, Sweden, a Bachelor's in Political Science from Tufts University, U.S.A., and a Degree in Songwriting and Guitar from Berklee College of Music where she graduated Cum Laude in 1996. She is also a trained actress at Joanne Barron DW Brown Studios in Santa Monica, California, U.S.A. Anouschka has supported her acting and recording career with side-jobs ranging from selling chicken wings at McDonald's to producing radio segments for NPR as a music correspondent
She has collaborated with producers in Germany, the USA, Sweden, Kenya. Her songs enjoy worldwide airplay including charting on AMA Charts in the U.S.A. and Midnight Blues Radio, France. She has numerous international performances under her belt. She has placed in such international awards as BILLBOARD WORLD SONG, IAMA (International Acoustic Music Awards), JOHN LENNON SONGWRITING AWARDS
At the end of the day, everything finds its way back into her musical journey...we hope you enjoy the ride!
