“There are songs that jump on you, and kill you right away. There are songs that don't, they leave you indifferent. And then there are songs that don't jump on you, don't kill you, seemingly don't do anything to you, but when you try to push them away - you cannot. Gently and suddenly they're in command, leaving you only one freedom - to obey. That's the case of “Beautiful but Damned”. It's not at all my station's format. So I tried to push it away, but I cannot. Surprised and blue, I tell you Welcome...”

Album Reviews for "My Kind of Heartbreak"
“Swedish born Anouschka's new album 'My Kind Of Heartbreak' is a bit of a biographical work that takes in the trials, tribulations and highs and lows of Anouschka's life and career. Biographical maybe, but, not at all self-indulgent or pretentious. With its eclectic mix of country blues laced 'chunes' with hints of jazz, rock and folk, it's a well constructed work ....There's a lot of thought gone into 'My Kind Of Heartbreak'; impressive writing is showcased by very professionally handled instrumentation and attention to detail. 'My Kind Of Heartbreak' sits snugly between genres, has a vaguely retro feel but manages to sound fresh and wholesome....the genre shake-up thing gives 'My Kind Of Heartbreak' by Anouschka a wider audience base to aim her subtly ballsy music at.

"Eclectic and very good Americana...Anouschka Pearlman is a Swedish-American woman with large musical knowledge. She plays guitar, sings, and has produced the album, her second one. She has been compared to Rickie Lee Jones, Jewel och Phoebe Snow. My girlfriend is reminded of Carole King and Buffy Sainte-Marie while I hear a little Lucinda Williams. The music is eclectic. Jazz, country, rock and blues are mixed in an extremely competent manner. To be able to do happy, uptempo country one minute and shift into a sad blues reveals great musicality. Even the cover of the album is eclectic and can best be described as big selling female country artist in the mainstream meets animator Per Åhlin meets cut-out letters in different fonts á la punk. Cool and different! Anouschka presents her songs in a personal and expressive voice that sounds like a blend of Julie Miller and Cyndi Lauper. The instrumentation is well-balanced and the musicians are relaxed and playful , not least in the high energy "Man like you", with a cool electric guitar solo by Chuck Anthony (who has played with Backstreet Boys). The production is unpolished and alive while distinctive. The melodies and harmonies grow on you after a few listens. The lyrics are about Anouschka's life in general and especially about her lovelife. She's taken some hard knocks in life but that has made her wiser. Faith in romance and love she still has, this good girl gone wild!"

Album Reviews for EP "Anouschka"
“Cha Cha Charlie: “The intro of speaking to the guy (in the kitchen?) sets it up with humor...Good rhythm, swings...”
Audiogalaxy Internet Reviews 2000
" Suzie swings her hips with flair.”, “Four a.m. she's reeling home with leather laced with gin.”, “Doused in stale sex and Channel No. 4.” There are a number of subtle hints at sensuality and sexuality in this work. Anouschka's breathy-rich voice only adds to the sensation. “Cha Cha Charlie” leaps off the CD with charming style!”
Songwriter Monthly Review Extravaganza (AP) 06/1998
“This self-released debut conjures up some smoky nightclub lounge where the lights are dim enough to make everyone look pretty good, the tourch songs are witty and sad, and the singer sounds as if she'd lived through those hard times and good times herself. Anouschka is a local Berklee grad who's puttogether an impressive collection of tunes here in a retro, jazzy pop style reminiscent of Rickie Lee Jones or Phoebe Snow. Her affecting songs exert a seductive charm, leaving a vivid impression of their cast of searching characters: barflies with the cocaine blues, slumming covergirls, lost runaways, lovelorn 12-step diehards. “This is a story about Charlie-Charlie's a guy I used to know,” Anouschka murmurs casually to introduce a lilting tale about a wise guy whose luck has finally run out. “Four am she's reeling home in leather laced with gin,” she sings in the lovely “Call Daphne”, her knowing voice altogether sympathetic to the lot of another partygoer unsteadily towing the thin line between fun and the inevitable hangover.”

Live Reviews
“Musiken väcker en frihetslängtan, sena sommarnätter, bilsemester, övergivna motell i natten. Anouschka lyser på ett väldigt osvenskt sätt vilket säkerligen får andra än mig att drömma. Det är uppenbart att Anouschka har en stor musikalisk talang och känsla för musiken hon spelar som inte minst visar sig i hennes egen skrivna material. Jag slutar aldrig att förvånas av musikernas lyhördhet för publiken som närmast ger en improvistorisk karaktär på spelningen....”

“Anouschka ... plays crystal-clear, AC, Rickie Lee Jones-style pop with country/folk/torch/ blues ballads. At times reminiscent of a female Shaun Mullins, her vocals are good (think an older Jewel), but the sliding guitar lines and leads are fine, particularily on the slower songs. The songs are good, sturdy compositions, nicely arranged.... Anouschka...is an accomplished guitar player who uses chromatic chord changes, subtle underscoring, and lots of surprising dynamics that homogenize her airy compositions....Alan Hinds on lead guitar was outstanding, draping the songs with soft taffy-like embellishments, solos and counter melodies. Arno Lucas's percussive contributions blended in so well that they threatened to go unnoticed....Anouschka is a strong vocalist, but a surprisingly fine, subtle acoustic guitarist ....With her current backing band, in a year or so, Anouschka could be an AC favorite.”
